TWO QUESTIONS with AUTHOR SHOBHAA DE

How did you remember the day-to-day conversations you had with people so many years ago with such enviable accuracy?

My family often tells me that, you know. I can’t say I remember everything, but most of it, yes. I usually remember all the details. How can you forget? I even remember my childhood conversations. Like music, conversations are very important.

You took quite a few celebs to task in your memoir. Don’t you think you run the risk of being scratched too?

It doesn’t matter. When you stick your neck out and express a sharp opinion, you expect reactions which are sharp too. Each time I write something strong, I know I’m taking the risk of inviting a lot of adverse comments myself—which has happened many times. That’s okay.
